Oil on canvas painting by Gregory John entitled To Spite Your Face. When painting this my intention was to convey this absurd process of people attempting to improve their looks by conforming to what fashion may determine is a socially acceptable look, eg: small noses, big lips etc. It would appear that once started its difficult to know when to stop and the look becomes a freakish caricature. It made me reflect upon what sort of pressure people are under in order to conform with a particular kind of social stereotype. Buy this painting as an art poster, a canvas print or a framed print.
